Fatalism! To Pray or Not To Pray!

Many people today have the attitude that WHATEVER happens is God’s Will, so we should just RESIGN ourselves to things.–“There’s nothing we can DO about things, so we should just ACCEPT them passively.” Such an attitude is called “fatalism”.

When “fatalists” FAIL in some project or some task, instead of getting up and continuing to fight and desperately praying that God will change things and help them to succeed, they just lie there meekly and accept defeat, saying, “It was God’s Will” that they failed. Whatever happens, they just ACCEPT it and resign themselves to it.

When we get to Heaven, we’re going to find out that a lot of bad things that happened were not GOD’S fault, or even the DEVIL’S fault, but they were OUR fault because we didn’t PRAY! When you pray, things WILL happen and things WILL be different!–Because God will ANSWER prayer! As the Prophet Isaiah said, bad things were happening to Israel because “NO man STIRS HIMSELF UP to call upon the Lord”. (Isaiah 64:7) If your prayers have EFFECT and can CHANGE things, then if things AREN’T changed, it’s YOUR fault for not PRAYING! So PRAY!

Now, there ARE times, it is true, that God’s Will IS set about certain things, and we can’t change it.–And in times like THAT, we have to submit to His Will. But this is NOT ALWAYS the case! MANY times, failing to continue to fight or have faith in something is not SUBMISSION and YIELDEDNESS! Instead, it is often simply a LACK OF FAITH, a lack of conviction and determination to fight for something we believe in or desperately need!–As these following stories bring out:

Then Jesus said to His Disciples, “Suppose someone has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says, `Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him.’

“Then the one inside answers, `Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything!’ I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread because he is his FRIEND, yet because of the man’s IMPORTUNITY (his PERSISTENCE and INSISTENT DEMAND), he WILL get up and give him AS MUCH AS HE NEEDS!

“Therefore, I say to you, `ASK and it SHALL be given to you; seek and you SHALL find; knock and the door WILL be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Luke 11:5-1O)

LESSON: If you sincerely NEED something, and you are obeying God and know it is certainly within His Will for you to have it–or if you are asking Him to help you succeed in some vital task–then PRAY for it! (See 1 John 5:14-15) Be importunate! Keep insisting that God helps you or gives you what you need, and He WILL! “Seek and you SHALL find”, and if the Lord doesn’t answer your prayers right away, don’t give up!–Just KEEP knocking on Heaven’s door with your prayers and “the door WILL be opened”!
